Death's Golden Hour

Inspiration:

There is an auction house a few hours away that specializes in European antiques. On occasion, I'll bid on an item and actually win. A few months back, I travelled to pick up a chair I had won. Once I arrived they directed me to the back of the showroom. There, towering over my winning lot was a beautiful yet foreboding gold leaf gesso mirror, featuring the visage of a young woman, peacefully gazing upon whomever might be standing below her. My imagination could help but logically leap to the fact that this Had to be the last remain mirror from the "Opera House Disaster" all those years ago.

Creation: 

This mask is truly one of a kind. The exterior features a beautifully gilded finish using the traditional leafing techniques of years past. Only a few warm washes were used to patina  surface before it was sealed to withstand handling and wear. With a noteworthy interior, this mask features my first use of "Death Red" leather lining, using one of the softest, most supple leathers I've handled.  To finish it off, lace ribbons in a rich chocolate tone are securely applied for whatever mysterious wearer might need them.
